How to Buy

How to buy with JAV

5 easy steps:

1. Contact us - Japan Auction Vehicles

Complete the free registration process with Japan Auction Vehicles for access to our vehicle request system and private auction website. Your account will be activated as soon as possible.

Free registration here >>>

2. Pay Deposit

Japan Auction Vehicles take a $1500 security deposit before bidding. This can be paid by Stripe or EFT, and is fully refundable. It can be applied to the cost of your vehicle when you win the auction or left in our account for future purchases.

The deposit amount is subject to change for expensive vehicle purchases.

3. Request Your Dream Car

Japan Auction Vehicles will not try to sell you a car. We are connected directly with Japanese government vehicle auctions and act as agents for finding your dream car. Using our vehicle request page you can select make, model and colour etc.  Once we have your request our agents go to work searching through over 150,000 vehicles per week on offer in Japanese Government Vehicle Auctions, which we have direct access to through our exclusive online portal. We guide, support, and provide translations, assistance & opinions along the way. Then we handle every aspect of sourcing your new car, from logistics in Japan, to shipping, to customs, ADR compliance, AU road registration and delivery to you!

Not all vehicles can be imported into Australia, this is due to existing trade agreements between the Australian Government and local dealers. However there are many quality vehicles that can be imported and are highly sought after. This is where we come in with our 100% DFY (Done For You) service that handles importability checks, bidding, transport of the vehicles to the port in Osaka, shipping, customs, and compliance for Australian roads.

If you wish to make a bid, once you have registered simply fill in your vehicle request including your bid amount and we take care of the rest.  NOTE:  JAV only guarantees bids entered before 9am on the day of the auction.  We do accept bids at any other time of day due to timezoine differences and admin processing times.  Please call, text, or SMS us if you want to enter a bid after 9am to ensure it will be processed in time.

If you only require more information or a translation of the auction inspection sheet, then select 'info request' and do not enter a bid amount.  You may add comments or questions in the text box before submitting.

4. Pay For Vehicle Purchase

Once your bid is successful, you will be notified by email immediately & receive an invoice the same day. For one time buyers, you may pay the balance (total cost minus $500 deposit). For regular buyers, we recommend leaving your deposit with us to avoid bank transfer charges.

The total cost will consist of:

  • Sale price of the vehicle
  • The FOB/Export fee (discount JPY 65,000 / standard JPY 85,000)
  • Transportation to nearest shipping yard for immediate export. (usually around JPY 7500 but can be more for certain auctions or vehicles)
  • A JPY 5700 banking fee charged by the Japanese bank to receive international TT.

To summarize:  Auction price + Export fee + Transport to dock + ADR compliance + pits inspection + delivery + Bank fee.

There is also a 4% surcharge on vehicles over 700,000 JPY, and an 8% surcharge on vehicles over 1,500,000 JPY auction price.

JAV Commission Fee Structure

Most companies acting as a proxy agent for overseas buyers in Japanese auctions charge between JPY 70,000 to JPY 100,000.

At Japan Auction Vehicles we understand that this is a lot of money to invest in a deposit, and that we need to be competitive to provide good service. For this reason we have set both our commission and the security deposit at the bare minimum.

  • Discount FOB =  JPY 75,000 (for payments received within 3 working days)
  • Standard FOB =  JPY 97,000 (for payments received within 7 working days)
  • Note: A 4% surcharge applies for vehicles over JPY 700,000. Please see our Terms of Trade for more information on higher priced vehicles.
